The staff at this mountain lodge shifts into hyper-service mode when the rare tourist shows up, pulling out all stops to ensure a pleasurable stay.  Perhaps it is because they have to work that much harder at making a lasting impression. 

The hotel is no 5-star luxury palace, as is the case with so many of the DR’s resorts, but rooms are spacious and recently renovated. Several have balconies that look over the pool and Jacuzzi area. 

A particularly nice feature of the Gran Jimenoa is a terrace overlooking the rushing rapids of Rio Yaque del Norte, a popular attraction for active travelers on rafting excursions from coastal resort areas.
