Playa Grande
The most spectacular swimming area on the north coast is a long stretch
of mostly undeveloped shoreline with tall cliffs on all sides.
A large
international hotel chain once operated a resort here, but has since
closed down. And aside from the few vendors selling fresh fish and cold
beer from makeshift food stands at the end of the beach, there is
little sign of life.
An hour to the east of Playa Grande is one of the
most beautiful greenways in the Caribbean, the Cabrera/Playa Grande
Golf Course designed by Robert Trent Jones, with 10 of its 18 holes
running alongside towering ocean cliffs.
