Of the many waterfalls on the Samaná Peninsula, El Limón is indeed the most spectacular. Rising 900 feet above sea level and cascading 150 feet into a deep pool of blue water, it has the alluring combination of awe inspiring size and stunning natural beauty.
Getting to El Limón is something of an adventure, requiring the guidance of a tour leader trained to preserve the many species of native trees and plants lining the two mile long trail to the waterfall as well as the assistance of a four-footed mule to traverse the steep incline. Several family-run paradas line the road marking the starting point of the trail. These casual rest stops offer refreshing beverages and delicious Dominican-style meals at the end of an enjoyable day of exploring the fall.
