This is Moorish architecture on a grand scale. An artistic showpiece, the sprawling lobby consists of several sitting areas, each with individual character and luxurious enough to satisfy even the most demanding Emir.

The sound of flowing water fills the air as towering columns hoist arches high overhead. A long dramatic pathway winds past habitats for flamingoes and ends at a sweeping and blinding white-sand beach dotted with two-person bohios (indigenous coco palm canopies that can still be found in the DR).

Less effort, however, is put into decorating the spacious guest rooms. The resort is within easy reach of the country’s most fascinating national park, Parque Nacional del Este, and several accessible caves housing Taino Indian rock art of great archaeological significance.

Two outlying islands, one with coral reefs and the other providing the most exciting diving in the country, are also nearby.
