Sosua
Beautiful hotels, a crescent-shaped bay and serene waters, placed against a frenetic
backdrop of ‘expat’ restaurants and bars
characterize this neighborhood beach.
The calm waters make this a safe option for families with children;
offshore reefs provide spectacular underwater sightseeing. The pool and
beach facilities at Casa Marina Reef (809.571.3535) offer a mellower alternative to the pace on the public side of the beach.
This was once a settlement area for a large group of German and
Austrian Jewish refugees for whom the Dominican government issued visas
between 1940 and 1945. The area is multi-language with two main sections: El Batey, with residential streets, restaurants, shops and hotels;
and Los Charamicos, a typical Caribbean village.
