While finding
Italian cuisine in Santo Domingo is no great challenge (a reflection
of the large Italian expatriate community residing here) La
Briciola stands out in this crowded category.
Admired for its
romantic setting inside a restored 16th century colonial building, La
Briciola is also revered for consistently delivering excellent
food of the highest quality. Among the offerings on the time-honored menu are
Milanese-style pastas and risottos, as well as imported meats, fresh
fish and seafood which are flavorful and creative but not
overwhelming.
Dining tables set
up in the inner courtyard in the evenings are illuminated by
candlelight, while water flowing through an old Spanish fountain
catches the glow of the moon, enhancing the romantic and magical
setting.
