Hidden among the fading edifices of a less touristy area in
the Colonial City;
this restaurant behind an unassuming façade surprises with tasteful Old World décor and remarkably good food.  Old wood
and bare brick walls exude a darkly sensuous tavern ambience so authentically Español, America
could be in the Madre Land as opposed to one of her former colonies.

Start things off with a generous serving of serrano
ham
sliced from one of the many piernas
dangling from the ceiling, then follow up with a bowl of the hearty white bean
and pork fabada stew.  The
braised leg of lamb, sufficient for two, is so succulent it falls off the
bone. America
sees a steady stream of regulars, but the affable proprietor and host showers
visitors with just the right amount of attention so as not to have anyone feel
left out.
