USAID was established as an official agency of the U. S. Government when the Foreign Assistance Act was signed by President John F. Kennedy on September 4, 1961 in Washington, D.C. On January 11, 1962, the Secretary for Foreign Affairs of the Dominican Republic, Alvarez Aybar, in conjuction with then-U.S. Ambassador to the country, John Calvin Hill, signed the General Convention for the Economical, Technical and Similar Purposes which was the beginning of American foreign assistance in the Dominican Republic. The objective of USAID is to administer economic aid programs that improve the quality of life of the citizens of underdeveloped and developing countries, working also to promote democracy and social progress.
Last year, USAID Dominican Republic, the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, the Dominican Institute for Development and Research, and the Mayor’s office came together to launch an Organic Compost Plant in Juan de Herrera, the first ever in the northwestern region of the country. This plant was an initiative of the mayor of that town, Sr. José Alcántara, and the IIDD, as a model project to improve waste collection and generate income for an impoverished community who faces both these problems. The project is supported by USAID though its Investment Fund of Environmental Protection, and is considered to be environmentally-sound and economically-sustainable. To top it off, the inauguration of the project cost only US$100,000.

Book of Doctors
was started to help patients find up-to-date information on doctors in
their neighborhood. Through research, reviews and rankings, patients
get a better idea of their doctor before their first visit. Nearly all
insurance companies list approved doctors on their website, however
their information is limited to only name, address and phone number.
Book of Doctors tries to give more information than the basics such as
educational background, years practicing medicine,
awards/certifications, office hours, direct map location, additional
office locations, approximate number of patients, insurance types, etc… Also, Book of Doctors created a new anonymous rating & review system that
allows our visitors to get a personal opinion of each doctor. We ask doctors to have their patients to submit an objective review. No other doctor listing site is
sucessful in combining this simple-survey review system with detailed
doctor office information. We’re always continuing to expand our
services and strive to better inform new patients about doctors
everyday. Please check back frequently for new features and additional
listings. Why should new patients blindly visit doctors? We should know
a little more than just their name.
